English:
One year after the historic Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which found Israel’s Wall built on occupied Palestinian territory to be illegal; Israel continues its construction of the colonial Wall with total disregard to the Court’s decision. Thirty eight years into Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian West Bank (including East Jerusalem), Gaza Strip and the Syrian Golan Heights, Israel continues to expand Jewish colonies. It has unilaterally annexed occupied East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights and is now de facto annexing large parts of the West Bank by means of the Wall. Israel is also preparing – in the shadow of its lanned redeployment from the Gaza Strip – to build and expand colonies in the West Bank. Fifty seven years after the state of Israel was built mainly on land ethnically cleansed of its Palestinian owners, a majority of Palestinians are refugees, most of whom are stateless. Moreover, Israel’s entrenched system of racial discrimination against its own Arab-Palestinian citizens remains intact.
In light of Israel’s persistent violations of international law; and

Given that, since 1948, hundreds of UN resolutions have condemned Israel’s colonial and discriminatory policies as illegal and called for immediate, adequate and effective remedies; and

Given that all forms of international intervention and peace-making have until now failed to convince or force Israel to comply with humanitarian law, to respect fundamental human rights and to end its occupation and oppression of the people of Palestine; and

In view of the fact that people of conscience in the international community have historically shouldered the moral responsibility to fight injustice, as exemplified in the struggle to abolish apartheid in South Africa through diverse forms of boycott, divestment and sanctions; and

Inspired by the struggle of South Africans against apartheid and in the spirit of international solidarity, moral consistency and resistance to injustice and oppression;

We, representatives of Palestinian civil society, call upon international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era. We appeal to you to pressure your respective states to impose embargoes and sanctions against Israel. We also invite conscientious Israelis to support this Call, for the sake of justice and genuine peace.
These non-violent punitive measures should be maintained until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law by:
1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall
2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and
3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.

En vista del hecho que los pueblos conscientes en la comunidad internacional históricamente han cargado la responsabilidad moral de luchar contra la injusticia, como fue en la lucha para abolir el apartheid en Sudáfrica a través de diversas formas de boicots, desinversiones y sanciones;

1. La finalización de su ocupación y colonización de todas las tierras árabes y el desmantelamiento del Muro;

En raison du fait que les personnes de conscience parmi la communauté internationale ont historiquement endossé la responsabilité morale de combattre l’injustice, comme illustré dans la lutte pour abolir l’Apartheid en Afrique du Sud par diverses formes de boycott, de retrait d’investissement et de sanctions;

In considerazione del fatto che persone di coscienza nella comunità internazionale si sono storicamente prese la responsabilità morale di combattere l’ingiustizia, come esemplificato dalla lotta per l’abolizione dell’apartheid in Sud Africa attraverso diverse forme di boicottaggio, disinvestimento e sanzioni;

In Anbetracht der Tatsache, dass in der Geschichte aufrichtige Menschen in der internationalen Gemeinschaft immer wieder die moralische Pflicht übernommen haben, gegen Unterdrückung zu kämpfen, wie es im Kampf gegen Apartheid in Südafrika die verschiedenen Formen von Boykott, Investitionsentzug und Sanktionen gezeigt haben;

1. Die Besetzung und Kolonisation allen arabischen Landes beendet und die Mauer abreißt;

WHAT IS BDS?

In 2005, Palestinian civil society issued a call for a campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. A truly global movement against Israeli Apartheid is rapidly emerging in response to this call.

Israeli police to activist reciting names of destroyed Palestinian villages: If you keep reading you will be arrested

(Editor's Note: For video and more pictures of this event see this post)

The first text message I received around 22:30 read "The cops have surrounded the building, It's quite likely that everybody will be arrested once we try to get out of the door. Alert everybody." The message was sent by a friend of mine, who along with 14 other activists came to the offices of Zochrot (remembering), an Israeli NGO that focuses on commemorating and raising awareness to the Palestinian Nakba, on the eve of the Israeli independence day. They were planning to go out to the street and remind the celebrators the horrible price that was paid and is still being paid by Palestinians for this so called independence.

The planned action was very simple. The activists carried small signs with names of Palestinian villages demolished during the Nakba, which they intended to take to Rabin Square, the main location of festivities in Tel Aviv. They planned to place those signs one by the other, on the floor, create a long line, and ask people to neither step on it, nor ignore it. As aforementioned, though, when they were about to leave the building, located in Ivn Gvirol st., in the centre of Tel Aviv, in order to preform this small protest action, they found themselves in an improvised iron-cage, made of the iron barriers prepared by the municipality to block the streets for the celebrations, surrounded by cops.

Meanwhile, more and more activists started arriving. They were called over by Facebook, Twitter, text messages and phone calls. Some of us tried to reach out for the signs held by the activists and hold them outside the iron cage, but the signs were immediately snatched by the cops. Others tried arguing with the cops. Many just stood there watching and documenting. When the lawyer Gabi Lasky arrived to the scene she tried unsuccessfully to decipher this legal limbo in which 15 activists were neither arrested, nor detained, but they were besieged inside the building.

After a long while one of the activists tried to break the siege, he was immediately grabbed and pinned to the ground by several cops. Another activist that was standing outside the blockade and tried to assist him, was violently arrested, as well. The commotion drew the attention of many passerbys, some of them asked questions, others expressed their support for the cops.

One of the activists that were called over brought a history book, out of which he started reading out loud the names of villages demolished by the Nakba, on which the city of Tel Aviv was built. Policemen warned him that if he keeps on reading he will be arrested. After a moment or two they fulfilled this threat. As he was dragged to the police van he kept on reading. "Shayka Muwannis, Abu Kabir, Salama...." The reading continued, though, from the cards held by those inside the blockade, one by one the names were read, repeated by everybody "Ijlil Shamalyyia, Sawalima, Yazur..." When a couple of dozens were reading out the names the cops stood helpless.

A couple of hours went by. Several activists were randomly allowed to leave the building, and joined those who were standing outside, the others were still blocked in. Eventually, a track of Tel Aviv municipality came by to collect the iron barriers, and to their great dismay the policemen had to release the activists locked inside the building.

The sign says "The people of Israel is alive, the left is dead. The funeral will take place in Gaza. That's how it is, and with this we will win... : )"
(Photo: Activestills)
As we were getting away, we were approached by several drunken Kahanists, who first swore, then started singing racist songs, and chanting "Death to Arabs, death to Arabs" , and concluded with threats such as "if there were no cops around I'd kill you". The cops around, somehow failed to hear these threats, although at some point one of them had a friendly chat with one of those Kahanists, after which he returned to harass us. We walked away in big groups, with some of them following us for a while, but they fell back as we refused to oblige them in a shouting match.

The three people who were arrested are still held in custody, and will be brought in front of a judge this evening.

Before I conclude, I should note that last week dozens of international activists got arrested for saying the word Palestine in Israeli airport. This week 3 activists got arrested, and a dozen more spent several hours in an iron cage for daring to mention the Nakba. In both case the Israeli thought police deemed the arrestees provocateurs. Once again, it seems like the thing most threatening to the Israeli regime, are peaceful activists, using the words which it tries to erase. A regime based on lies, can't help but being threatened by the those who dare speak out the truth.

A comment on BDS and Ashtar Theatre from Ramallah

Friday, April 27, 2012 at 8:11AM Gilad Atzmon
By Gilad Atzmon

In recent weeks we have seen a massive BDS campaign against Israeli Habima Theatre’s participation in the Shakespeare's Festival at the Shakespeare's Globe, London.

For days British intellectuals and celebrities argued whether it is morally ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ to invite the Israeli national Theatre to Britain. The outcome was obvious and predictable.  Habima’s London shows sold out within hours. As it happens, the futile BDS  campaign, provided Habima with the necessary public attention. At the end of the day, every reasonable thinking being would be happy to spare a few pounds and watch how the Israelis and Jews deal with The Merchant of Venice.

However, I have also learned tonight that Ashtar Theatre from Ramallah is also participating in the same London festival. Ashtar will perform Richard II but, for some reason, no one really knows anything about it.  Pro- Palestinian BDS activists, so enthusiastic to ban the Israeli theatre company, did nothing to promote or support the Palestinian theatre. Consequently, Ashtar Theatre hardly sold any tickets for its London shows.
I guess that time is ripe to challenge BDS strategy. As much as I support BDS in principle, I am puzzled by the fact that a UK pro-Palestinian organization went out of its way to boycott an Israeli act -yet it did nothing to promote or help a Palestinian company visiting this country for the first time.
As an artist I find it stupid. Painful and even perhaps, sinister.

Short Introduction by Gilad Atzmon: As it seems Arab and Palestinian activists are not free of mistakes. In this short video Omar Barghouti, leader of the BDS movement, appears to adhere to some biological determinist generalisations. I believe that Barghouti didn't think it through and if he did, he better justify his position. I plan to write a paper about the Arab Left and ‘post colonial’ terminology.

Omar Barghouti – on “White People”

For some peculiar reason Omar Barghouti, BDS’s leading activist makes some biologically determinist remarks. He for instance declares that he won’t take a lecture from a “white person”. But Barghouti doesn’t stop there, he clearly makes a connection between ‘skin colour’, political stand and violence. It seems as if Barghouti is also aware of himself making a racist statement when he suggests that “the white race is the most violent in history of mankind.”

Barghouti’s embarrassing comment must raise a few questions. Is there a a new emerging conflict between Palestinians and White People or the ‘White race’? Why does Mr. Barghouti chose to employ racist, and biological determinist terminology?

Clearly he could express the same idea by referring to Westerners culture, history or even Western expansionism...

Omar Barghouti – on “White People”

To be clear we support the principles of BDS but were puzzled when we came across this video, which features Omar Barghouti, one of the founders of the BDS movement admitting he might sound a little bit racist….What do you think?

For some peculiar reason Omar Barghouti, BDS’s leading activist makes some biologically determinist remarks. He for instance declares that he won’t take a lecture from a “white person”. But Barghouti doesn’t stop there; he clearly makes a connection between ‘skin colour’, political stand and violence.

Clearly he could express the same idea by referring to Westerners culture, history or even Western expansionism . Is it possible that Barghouti, being a student in the ‘Zionist’ Tel Aviv University (which he pleads us to boycott), has managed to internalise the Zionist racist manner of speech?

But there is also another acute question that deserves our immediate attention. Why exactly the ‘socialist’ crowd in Chicago is so exited by Barghouti’s Racist remark? Is it possible that our so-called ‘progressive’ panthers have changed their spots, are they now in favour of racism?

I guess that Ben White, another spokesman for the BDS movement, may have an answer to offer. In a recent New Statesman article he foolishly admitted that that BDS “is a strategy, not a principle.”

I guess that this is indeed very concerning about the BDS . It is not principled at all. A BDS prominent leader happens to spread racist remarks while enrolling to a ‘Zionist’ academic institute which he expects us to boycott. Another BDS prominent spokesman admits that the BDS is “not principled”.

Meanwhile in the UK BDS attempts to destroy Israeli Habima theatre but does nothing to promote a Palestinian theatre from Ramallah. As the BDS buying itself a name of a dedicated book burning institution, we learn that trade between Israel and Britain grew last year by 34%.

If BDS is an important humanitarian call and, we in Deliberation believe it is, it better be managed and represented by people who are slightly more principled and certainly more clever and astute.

  1. My Photo
As a pro-Palestinian activist, I don't give a damn about Shakespear at all! But, I will promote any good thing Palestine is doing and NOT WASTE my precious time campaigning against trivialities.

However, I totally agree with Gilad Atzmon's view on this matter.

“I normally am nice, but I won’t take it from a white person lecturing us about non violence, (Applause) And, I added something that may have sounded racist, that you know, the white “race” is like the most violent in the history of mankind.  Just look at World War I and II and the Holocaust and that you know and on and on and on and colonialism.  And, you just don’t lecture us about violence and non violence.”
Omar Barghouti (BDS Movement)

While posting the material for this article on my blog (Thursday, 26 April 2012)I encountered some difficulty and the material overflowed on the whole page and I neglected (forgot) to make the necessary corrections afterwards.  I apologise for this.

Reading the entire text that I have now managed to salvage, I realise that I made a wrong comment regarding Gilad Atzmon’s objection to Omar Barghouti’s comments about the “white people”.  After consideration, I do not think they were racist at all (although he is said to have admitted “he might sound a little bit racist”).

Given the heavy record of the so-called “white” Europeans who practiced racism, and were, according to their own experts, the purveyors of extreme violence around the globe ever since the Portuguese learned how to navigate from the Arabs and Muslims, and ever since the West achieved supremacy in the field of technology thanks to the wealth and resources they plundered from the “non-white” or rather the non “white” European world., which, posing themselves as White Racists and White Supremacists they labelled “the others”: Arabs, Mohammedans, Mozlems, Mahométans, Negroes, Coolies, Red Indians, savages, and so on, always meaning their inferiors.  The extent of their extreme violence is a historical fact proven over and over again: the extermination of aboriginal people, revolutions, endless wars of conquest and plunder, WWI, WWII, Korea, Indo-China, Afghanistan, Palestine, Libya, Iraq, Iran, South America, Sudan, Congo, Chechnya, Algeria, and so on.  And Mr Barghouti gave a few such examples.

It is recorded History that the so-called "WHITE EUROPEAN", mass murdered since Colombus some half a billion people around the globe, including some 150 million Muslims.

Any survivor of the “WHITE EUROPEAN” wars, revolutions, holocausts (Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and others), ethnic cleansings are quite right in claiming/suggesting/proposing that they won’t take a lecture from a “white person”, meaning SUCH A CRIMINAL WHITE PERSON!  Did they (the White European criminals) not themselves pose as White Supremacists and Racists?  Many still do!  That feeling will not go away when  the descendants of those same “WHITE EUROPEANS” KEEP ON CARRYING OUT (WITH THE HELP OF OTHERS AND MERCENARIES OF ALL COLOURS, NATIONALITIES AND BIOLOGICAL TYPES) THE SAME MASSACRES AND PLUNDER, AND REGULAR ASSASSINATE INNOCENT PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD (INCLUDING IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES) IN ALL ILLEGALITY BECAUSE THEIR SECRET SERVICES HAVE A LICENCE TO KILL: CIA-MOSSAD, DGSE, MI5, MI6, etc.

I do not think that it is right to distort Mr Omar Barghouti’s words and falsely accuse him of racism saying that he “appears to adhere to some biological determinist generalisations.”

Anybody who blames the CRIMINAL and RACIST Jews or Zionists for their criminal and racist actions is today labelled ANTI-SEMITIC, that is, a RACIST!

Anybody who blames homosexuals for perverting our morals is labelled HOMOPHOBIC, that is, a RACIST!

Anybody who blames the RACIST, FASCIST AND CRIMINAL “White Europeans” for being violent is labelled a RACIST!

My question is: where is the logic?

I would not ask Mr Barghouti to be “principled” or accuse him of “spreading racist remarks” WHICH HE DID NOT when the White European criminals and racists are themselves not principled at all except in doing evil (in general) or have themselves so many satanic principles compared to those of their victims.  What worthy or worthier “principles” can mass murderers and racists have?  The UK admits that racism is institutionalised even in their Police Force.  Because of racial discrimination, all kinds of separatist associations had to be set up, including amongst lawyers.  Muslims in France are refused the right to build mosques, to wear a head cover, and to practice their religion freely!  It is worst that racism; it is fascism.

I would not accuse Mr Barghouti of using “racist, and biological determinist terminology” BECAUSE HE DID NOT or to “internalise the Zionist racist manner of speech”?  It seems to me that all this is blown up out of proportions and all this is a clear RACIST ATTACK against him!

Citizens in the United Kingdom are classified by their skin colour, racial type, national origins, and even their “sexual orientation”, and individuals are being described accordingly.  So, it seems to me that it is making a big fuss about no offence committed and about a provable statement of fact.  It is nonsensical to accuse Mr Barghouti of GENERALISING because he was VERY SPECIFIC in his statement!

Further, many modern scientists (including my countryman Pr Claude Ribbe) are of the opinion that there is only one single human race.  So, it would seem to me that the definition of “racism” (a European concept) is not all black and white.  I have known millions of white people who are not Europeans, but White European racists tend to make the world believe that they are the only white people on planet earth.  Jews claim they are even a PURE AND SUPREME RACE!  It is not because Europeans have monopolised the label of the “White man” or the Jew of that of the SUPREME RACE OR THE CHOSEN RACE that we must go along with everything that they say and do.

When I tried to adopt a baby in several European countries back in the eighties, I was systematically refused each time because I was not

1.         “white”, “white” Christian or “white” Atheist or Jewish (white?)

We, victims of white racism, know what we are talking about!  So, why should I (too) keep on bowing down to ‘THEM’, meaning THOSE RACISTS?  I may not agree with Mr Barghouti on his “strategy”, or his Movement, but I would not tell DELIBERATE LIES about him, ACCUSE HIM OF RACISM, AND DELIBERATELY MISQUOTE HIM!  The author of that article (a piece of sh..!) should have quoted his exact words and not interpret them in a wicked and vicious manner!   Every single day, the press in Israel (and in the West) prints racist propaganda and the so-called West (even this term stinks of racism!) in general does not give a damn!

By the way, Mr Barghouti insinuated (and did not say!) that the white “race” is responsible of “the Holocaust”.  This one is not a proven fact, which he only said to please the white “West and the Jews”!  Why was this one (world famous as an industry, a racket, a gagging weapon of mass deception!) ignored?

I am disappointed that Gilad Atzmon made a big deal of so little!

We seem to be on the same side, but is this what “deliberation” call “journalism” and “truth”?

his is a big lie by "the editor"!
Mr Barghouti spoke of the VIOLENT WHITE "RACE" and not of the "white people"!

United Methodist Church’s shameful failure to divest from injustice

Posted on by Susan Abulhawa on The Electronic Intifada

Many things in this conflict are counterproductive to peace, but divestment from Israel’s occupation is not one of them.
This week, amidst the incredible ongoing mass hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners, some of them on the brink of starvation, the United Methodist Church failed to pass a resolution to divest from three major beneficiaries of the most incendiary human rights abuses and colonial crimes of our time.

Among the heartbreaking collection of ignorant statements, delegates had the audacity to claim that divestment was divisive and counterproductive to peace.
Many things in this conflict are divisive and counterproductive to peace. A 30-foot concrete wall with guard towers not unlike those that once encircled the Warsaw ghetto is divisive and counterproductive to peace. Policies of the state purposely designed to make human beings, entire Palestinian families and communities, homeless, through systematic and regular home demolitions, is divisive and counterproductive to peace. The arrest, detention, torture of Palestinian children is divisive and counterproductive to peace.

The indefinite imprisonment of Palestinians without charge or trial is divisive and counterproductive to peace. Outright land theft, that Israel makes no pretense of hiding, is divisive and counterproductive to peace. Siphoning of water so Jews can have swimming pools while Palestinians must ration water is divisive and counterproductive to peace.

A total of 954 checkpoints and barriers peppered throughout the West Bank to impede movement of Palestinians is divisive and counterproductive to peace. “Battle testing” new weaponry on a principally unarmed civilian population with no place to run or hide is divisive and counterproductive to peace. Jewish-only housing and roads are divisive and counterproductive to peace. They are the epitome of apartheid; and apartheid is divisive and counter to basic human dignity.

Divestment is not divisive

Divesting from three of the chief corporate beneficiaries of these crimes that aim to wipe an entire native population off the map is not divisive. It is, in fact, a token expression of decency that acknowledges the basic humanity of Palestinians. It is a symbolic show of solidarity with an oppressed people who are facing imminent demise. And in that way, it was the smallest test of morality, which the United Methodist Church has so shamefully failed.

So there is no mistake of what this decision means, let me be very clear. Through their words, actions and financial investment, the United Methodist Church will continue to support three companies that profit from Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.

The church has decided to support Caterpillar, which supplies the bulldozers and other earth eviscerating equipment used by Israel to demolish the homes, farms and orchards of human beings whose primary crime (let us not lie!) is that they are non-Jewish natives living on property Israel wants to steal and hand over to Jewish residents, most often imported from other countries.

The church has decided to support Hewlett-Packard, which provides advanced biometric technology that effectively monitor and confine 5 million human beings (all non-Jewish, of course) into small enclaves and open-air prisons.

And the church has decided to support Motorola, which furnishes surveillance equipment for illegal, Jewish-only colonies built on confiscated Palestinian land.
For an analogy of the meaning, change the date and the names of companies, perhaps to those that benefited from transporting Jews to death camps, or those that supplied weapons used to mow down schoolboys in Soweto, or bus lines that made black folk sit in the back and give up their seats for whites. Who would call divesting from such abominations divisive and counterproductive to peace? And tell me the difference between the behavior of those companies and the three aforementioned.

An utter disgrace

Kairos and people of conscience tried to find something positive in this ignominy, claiming it a victory for those fighting for justice because the divestment debate itself ignites a conversation from which there is no retreat. I don’t deny the truth in that. But it is wrong to stop there because it was so much more than that.
It was an utter disgrace, a blight on the church of the same magnitude as that which comes from the institutional failure to speak up for Jews in the late 1930s.
And when juxtaposed to the courage, principled fortitude, and ineffable will of 2,000 human beings with nothing but their hunger to protest Israel’s systematic destruction of Palestinian society — the actual natives of the Holy Land — the decision of the United Methodist Church delegates becomes vulgar and unforgivable.
Just this week alone, a woman in Gaza was shot by Israeli soldiers who opened fire on farmers working on their own land in Khuzaa, east of Khan Younis. In a previous incident of Israeli target practice on Monday, another Palestinian farmer was shot in the same area.

On Wednesday, Israeli bulldozers demolished 13 sheds and tents belonging to the Jahalin Bedouin tribe, near Jerusalem, leaving several families without shelter for themselves of their livestock. These ancient dwellers of the land have been particularly hard-hit by Israel’s ethnic cleansing policies, as their homes are routinely destroyed and they are pushed off their lands as if cattle in broad daylight.

Last week, Israeli forces evicted a Palestinian family from their home in Beit Hanina and moved Jewish settlers in their place, a scandalously racist Israeli practice that has escalated in and around Jerusalem to Judaize historically Palestinian areas.
At the same time, Israeli settlers this week constructed twenty new homes on privately-owned Palestinian land in an illegal outpost known as Ulpana, in Beit El settlement northeast of Ramallah.

There were at least 57 military incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip just this week alone.

Failure to take a moral stand

Reverend Alex Joyner, who opposed the resolution, said, “We are all concerned about the suffering and the ongoing occupation, because it is hurting Israeli and Palestinian society. But what the church has said is we want a positive step, and we reject punitive measures as a way of trying to bring peace.”

His platitudes and patronizing drivel aside, what measures, pray tell, does the Reverend Joyner propose to bring peace to Palestinian children who are systematically terrorized and traumatized by Israel to the point that 98.6 percent of them suffer from symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder? Or to the hundreds of children kidnapped in the middle of the night from their families and thrown into jails where their fragile spirits waste away without charge, without trial, without mercy?
The United Methodist Church had a historic opportunity to take a moral stand, however unpopular but undoubtedly moral. Instead, they took a decision that moves them toward the realm of moral irrelevance.

But to all Palestinians, to all people of conscience and to those Methodists who stood on the right side of justice, where Jesus would undoubtedly stand, take heart! Take heart! Palestinians may be starving, languishing and bleeding, but Israel and its backers are rotting at their core, because that’s what racism, self-interest at all costs, and cowardice does to the soul.

Take heart and do not despair. We have not reached the end of history. There is still blood in our veins, air in our lungs and brilliant souls in our wombs. They have but the cold steel of death machines and the moral void of lies, which cannot and will not prevail against naked hearts and empty stomachs taking up the good fight for freedom.

Jewish Domination? Occupation More Likely

By Gilad Atzmon

The recent attack on Free Gaza’s Greta Berlin and Colonel Ann Wright suggests that we have crossed a red line -- Jewish domination within the Palestinian solidarity movement belongs to the past. We are now, it seems, under Zionist occupation, and we are subject to all the symptoms of Israeli abuse and Zionist brutality.

The expulsions,  the exclusions and the cleansings that are inherent within Zionism, Israeli and Jewish politics, are now alive and kicking within the Palestinian solidarity movement itself. On a daily basis we are notified about more and more people who ‘must be’ expelled from the ‘movement’: earlier this year we learned that the Palestinian poet and writer Nahida Izzat  had first been harassed and later expelled from her local Palestinian solidarity group by a Liverpool Jewish activists' gang. Next,  Dr Francis Clark Lowes, former Chairman of the UK PSC was expelled from the organisation, for allegedly being an ‘Anti Semite’ and a ‘holocaust denier’. Norman Finkelstein, probably the leading pro Palestinian Jewish scholar, has also been subjected to repeated smears and  attempts at character assassination for voicing some legitimate criticisms re BDS being a cult, and recently, the greatly admired Greta Berlin, co-founder of Free Gaza, has also been subjected to harassment and abuse in the last few weeks. Berlin was labeled 'an anti Semite' and 'a Holocaust Denier' -- and yet, up until the present time, there has not been a shred of  evidence provided by her detractors to support such accusations.  And now, the respected peace activist Colonel Ann Wright has also been 'purged', and expelled from the current attempt to break the siege on Gaza -- simply  for being associated with Mrs Berlin.  The pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim is also subject to a BDS  boycott. And six months ago I too, faced a call for a disavowal -- by people who were foolish enough to confess that they had not even read a single line of my work.

The message here is clear – some elements within the Palestinian solidarity movement have obviously adopted the most repellent and brutal Zionist symptoms, and we are now engaged, caught up in, and beset by a sinister series of expulsions, purges, crude witch hunts, exclusions, smears, character defamations and cleansings.

Palestinian Authority– The Palestinian authority was formed by Israel in order to ‘maintain order’ within the occupied territories. We are fully aware of the PA’s difficult and problematic role in Palestine -- but in recent years we have also become familiar with a new type of exilic Palestinian ‘authority’: I refer here to those few Palestinians who are in place to maintain the solidarity movement as 'a Kosher haven'. In the last six months, some exiled Palestinians have been involved in numerous  ‘targeted character assassinations’ of some of our most valued leading activists and scholars. In the last month we saw Solidarity activists openly joining forces and collaborating with the darkest Zionist forces against Greta Berlin, Ann Wright, Ken O’Keefe, Norman Finkelstein,  and myself amongst others.

Segregation – Like in occupied Palestine (or ‘apartheid’ Israel, if you prefer), the solidarity movement is now clearly a segregated society: we can  witness a clear division between the 'Jews only' groups (racially driven and tribally oriented), and the 'Palestinians only' groups (ethnically segregated).  And then there is the general solidarity activist network,  that still insists to promote those consistent humanist values and goals of inclusivity and universality that it it has always upheld.

Espionage –Recent Jewish ‘progressive’ campaigns against Berlin and Colonel Wright have proved that, like Hasbara agents and Mossad, some of the so-called ‘anti’ Zionist Jewish organisations within our movement have been spying and tracking our moves, our private life, and  even our social network activity. They also use Hasbara disinformation and spin tactics in order to ruin the names of those who ‘got too close to the bone’ i.e. criticising Jewish power.

I have been monitoring these Hasbara tactics for more than a while and I have seen these tactics being used by some marginal Sayanim individuals within the movement. But I was slightly disappointed to find out that slander, smear and abuse are now  increasingly openly used by leading solidarity outlets such as Mondoweiss and Electronic Intifada.

The Verdict Is Clear
We are not a ‘solidarity’ movement anymore, for we have become foreign to the notion of solidarity as well as empathy.

But this is not necessarily entirely bad news. Being subject to vile Zionist occupation, we had better urgently be in solidarity with ourselves -- for we are all Palestinians now. We are abused by Israel, by its Sayanim, and by their collaborators.

I guess that we had better liberate ourselves first. And such an aspiration would certainly give the concept of Palestinian resistance a new meaning and dimension.
